If you suffer from migraines and are tired of relying on pain medications for relief, then this will come as good news. New evidence strongly supports that seeing a chiropractor can provide you with natural migraine relief.

A recent study observed a statistically significant relationship between spinal manipulation therapy and the reduction of migraine days and migraine intensity. The study is published by the European Journal of Neurology.

The study spanned 17 months and included 104 participants. Participants reported suffering from migraines at least once a month.

Chiropractic Care for Migraines

The findings show a significant reduction in migraine duration and headache severity amongst groups receiving chiropractic spinal manipulation therapy (Chaibi et all, 2016). These results were different than the control group, which did not report any significant change towards the end of the follow-up period 12 months later. Participants that received chiropractic spinal manipulation therapy reported significantly lower consumption of acetaminophen than all other treatment groups.

The effect continued across follow-ups at three, six, and twelve months after the initial treatments (Chaibi et all, 2016). On the contrary, the number of migraine days experienced by participants in the control group reverted to baseline level.

The study’s findings are important for the many people who deal with migraines. Prescription painkillers are no longer the only viable means of migraine relief. Chiropractic care is a natural alternative to the unhealthy over-the-counter drugs on the market.

This is not the only study that has identified spinal manipulation therapy as an effective migraine remedy. An Australian randomized controlled trial (RCT) has shown 40% reduction in migraine frequency, 43% reduction in duration, and a 36% reduction of intensity at two months follow-up.

One American study also found a 33% reduction in migraine frequency and 42% reduction in intensity at follow-up just one month after the initial trial.

Aside from just migraine treatment and pain relief, seeing a chiropractor can provide many additional health and wellness benefits. Neck pain tends to be high amongst patients suffering from migraines. For that reason it could also be beneficial for you to see a chiropractor if you suffer from migraines.
